Duplexing Printing on both
sides of a page.
Edge enhancement A feature
that allows a printer to fill in the space between dots on the edges of
lines and of filled-in areas in graphics, creating straighter edges and
making text, lines, and edges in graphics appear to have a higher
resolution.
Gamut or color gamut The
range of colors a printer can produce. A gamut is defined by the ink
colors a printer uses.
Gradient An area in a
graphic that changes gradually from one color or shade to another.
LCD and LED printers
Types of electrophotographic printers that are identical to laser
printers except for the light sources they use to create an image on a
drum. In all three cases, the printer type is named for the light
source: LCD (liquid crystal display), LED (light-emitting diode), or
laser. In most contexts, the term laser printer covers LCD and
LED printers as well.
Monthly duty cycle A
product spec representing the number of pages a printer can produce in a
month without driving up repair costs exponentially.
Registration The
alignment between different-color planes. When a printer uses four ink
colors, it essentially prints four images, one for each color. The four
images have to be aligned with each other, or registered.
Super-tabloid-size paper Any paper slightly
larger than tabloid size, which is 11 by 17 inches.
