bulletBudget-minded users (up to $200). At the low end of this range (under or around $100), you can expect only minimal PIM applications, relatively poor screens, and a lack of third-party software or accessories. From $150 to $200, your options increase, with better monochrome displays and sufficient but not generous memory. You probably won't find rechargeable batteries in this price range.
Look for a handheld in this price range if your main purpose is to track your personal data, you don't want to spend a lot of money, and you have little interest in adding accessories or applications.

bulletProfessional/small-business users ($200 to $400). In this price range, you'll find faster processors and more memory. Most units will have monochrome screens, but color is available with a few. Those that have color displays will probably be light on memory, however. This accounts for the bulk of the market, so you can expect a full range of third-party peripherals and expansion devices.
Look for a handheld in this price range if you want to run a wide variety of applications and have the widest selection of accessories.

bulletExecutive users or high-end personal-entertainment users ($400 to $650). For the sleekest designs with fast processors and maximum memory, this is your price range. Multimedia models have color displays and stereo audio jacks. Expect one or more types of expansion slots and a wide range of available accessories.
Look for a handheld in this price range if you want the sleekest, coolest, or best-equipped handheld and money is no object.

bulletWireless road warriors ($300 and up, including accessories).  Though prices are dropping rapidly, it's still possible to spend over $1,000 for a handheld, a wireless modem, and an expansion pack. Of course, you'll also have to sign up and shell out for monthly service fees. Unfortunately, coverage is a big problem: No service exists yet with nationwide coverage. Because wireless standards are in flux, the emphasis is on third-party rather than built-in modems.
Look for a handheld in this price range if you travel a lot and keeping in touch is your highest priority.
